The Minnesota Earthworm Massacre

Rain, wind, and low temperatures last night left the ground covered in a layer of ice.  It didn't bother me as I was dry inside my tent and sleeping bag. But when I stepped outside, HORROR!

The first frozen worm I saw didn't leave me too shocked, I'm accustomed to dead worms because I fish.

The next couple of frozen worms started to worry me.

Then I came upon this massacre.  Evidently, the rain drove the worms to dry, warm ground (the asphalt), and the freezing temps finished them off.

As the elevation dropped and I moved closer to the lake, temperatures rose and I began to see survivors.

But many were left in a deplorable state.  And I soon found out why...

Legions of birds had seized this opportunity for a fast, hearty meal.

Led by their fearless leader, Robin "Fats" Domino.

But the numbers those birds devoured pales in comparison to the number I trampled underfoot...

...on my way to tell you about the massacre.

Like the mustache?
